00:00:08,365 --> 00:00:13,025
Speaker 0: Maybe I shouldn't call it pocket hair. Maybe we'll stick with pocket office. Hello, everybody.

3
00:00:13,405 --> 00:08:13,565
Speaker 2: I have great news. We have reached our bounty and another office hours is already in the kitchen, getting whipped up. But I thought let's take a brief moment with a little pocket office and tell you about a new podcasting two point zero feature that JB is working on. And I'm hoping you'll help us test it because we're gonna go into detail in the next episode of office hours. We're also gonna chat about an improvement proposal to the podcasting two point zero project to make our little project really sing. Here's what we got going on. It is early days. I mean, this is a a minimum viable project, I guess, you could say. But I think I think you can handle it. And then you'll get a good picture, and it'll help you understand the conversation even more. So we have set up something that we are calling Jupiter Station. It's a twenty four seven live stream with classic episodes and our weekly live streams. What's new and neat is that it is a podcasting two dot o feed with the live item tag in there, known as lit. So you can plug it into any podcasting two dot o app that supports the live item tag. And stream are classic back catalog and our current weekly live shows in your favorite podcasting Toyota app. You can subscribe to it and it'll be right there in the list. And, one day, obviously, I hope to have every show with live item tag support. But we're not there yet. And we're starting here because it's a great way to test. And even if every single individual show feed had lit support, I think I'd still want, like, a mainstream feed. So, like, it all shows live stream feed. So I just started here. It's called Jupiter Station. And you'll get old shows at the box picking and rotating for you some really old stuff sometimes, some some recent stuff. And then, of course, the weekly code of radios, Linux unplug, any live event we're doing. Like, if we were live at Linux fest or something like that, that would be on the stream as well on that lit feed. And, you know, I don't often listen to the back catalog. It's hard to listen to yourself. At least I find it. Especially younger me. Younger me is so dumb. But tuning into the feed and just letting the DJ bot pick it, it's actually kinda nice. Reminding me of old conversations and projects we worked on and just letting the system pick it for me. I've been enjoying that, but Here here's a few things that you should know are not working right now as you help us test this. Like I said, it's a minimum viable project. Big one. You'll probably notice right away. The individual show and episode metadata does not update per show or stream right now. So you could be It just says the Jupiter station feed. It doesn't update to what you're actually hearing on the stream. Obviously, we wanna fix that. Also, the value block right now is static. So you can boost, but it doesn't reflect the current show you're listening to. The boost will support the stream, and we have a tag to such as, hey, this was somebody who was saying thanks for the Jupiter station, and it, of course, supports the network and all that. But it won't go to the individual show you're listening to as of right now. And that That may always be the case with the station feed. Maybe not. I'm not sure there. Something to consider. And one other thing that I think is gonna be really nice to have that isn't in there yet is we cannot update the pending or live status or ended status. So, traditionally, with these live item tags, I can actually go in and say, in an hour, Linux on plug's gonna start. And so then if you happen to open up your podcasting app within that hour, you'll see, hey, by the way, know, in twenty five minutes or whatever it's whatever it is by that point. In twenty five minutes, Linux unplug's gonna be live. Tap here. And then when it actually goes live, I can then send a push notification and change that status in your player to live. And of course, you can opt to not get that push notification. But if you don't want to miss a live stream of Linux unplugged, and they are kind of pangers. It's nice to be able to get that push notification. We are not sending those out at this particular point in time. It is just a static feed that's always live, and you'd have to follow the actual calendar, which I did link in the description to know when we're live. Eventually, we should be able to get to that point as well. It it it re you know, it's really just a matter of getting it right. Having a system that can generate the RSS XML file, put it up on object storage, send out a pod ping. It's just it's building tools we don't have yet. But we can build those tools. And all of the things I said that aren't working are possible to be fixed if we invest the time. And We invest the time if there's interest and demand by you, the audience. So if I see people testing this and listening to the stream and liking it and getting feedback, Those are signals to me. It's worth us investing their time. If I put it out there and it doesn't really go anywhere, it may just end up being a dead project or an MVP or we get it a little bit further and just kinda keep it there or we wrap it up. I'm not sure. We're just really careful how we spend our time. So I really gauge it based on kind of the traction it seems to get with the audience. So I'm putting it out there. I'm putting it out there. I'd like to see if you like this, if you use it, and I'd like you to have a chance to try it before the next office hours comes out. Brent's traveling in Berlin right now. And then I'm taking the wife on a little birthday road trip for a couple of days. So I I we have bits of office. We've never really done it this way. We have bits of office hours that are gonna be pre produced and ready to go, and then we're gonna put it all together and ship it out to you. But we've been having a lot of a lot of, kind of new new ideas. I don't know really how to put it. We've had, like, good ideas and bad ideas on ways we can go with putting together a show that's a bounty show where we don't have a weekly deadline. So if a guest falls through, we can kinda well, we could let that slip for a day or if If Brent's traveling, we can let that slip or, hey, if we have time to produce a bit here, we can do that. And it's we're still finding our rhythm with it. But man, do I like it? When we get it right. I'm, like, I'm kicking myself when we get it wrong, because I would have liked to have the episode out right around when we hit our bounty. Which was a a couple of weeks ago, actually, I think, or a week ago. Whatever. I would have liked to have an episode out then. We're gonna get closer and tighter as we figure this out if we keep hitting those bounties. Of course. And if you do boost into this pocket office, I'll put those sets towards our next bounty. But I am really stoked that we hit another one. Really, really looking forward to what we're working on and doing a technical deep dive into how this works and kind of some of the improvements and hopeful I'm hopeful some of the updates we'll see to podcasting Tono to make this even better. I will put links to the Jupiter station on Podver fountain and pod friend, or you can just search in a podcasting two dot o app for Jupyter station. Here's how you know if it's working. If you only see the introduction, one entry in the feed, it's not working. Your podcast app doesn't support the live item tag. You should see two entries in the feed, my introduction, what the heck the feed is, and then the actual live feed. And if if you subscribe to Jupiter Station, you see both entries, your podcast app supports live item. You're good to go. You can tap it and listen. Now if you're just curious about the audio stream, you don't have a podcasting two dot o app. Jb live dot f m. Plug that into anything that supports an m p three stream, and you can listen to Jb live f m in your browser if you want. The idea with the Jupiter station feed is to bring it into your podcast app. Maybe make it even a little bit more accessible when you're traveling, going down the road, you jump it in the car. Hey, I'll I'll just tune this in like radio and just Listen to a random j b show. That's what I've been doing. So I that's that's why I'm really excited about this. You could have always gone to j b live dot f m, but now it's, like, right there in the workflow. You know what I mean? And that well, I think that has potential. Alright. Links in the notes or search for Jupyter station in your podcast in two point zero app. Thank you for boosting, and we'll be back soon with a banger.

53
00:04:38,550 --> 00:04:42,490
Speaker 2: It it it re you know, it's really just a matter of getting it right.

54
00:04:43,255 --> 00:04:50,555
Speaker 2: Having a system that can generate the RSS XML file, put it up on object storage, send out a pod ping. It's just it's building tools we don't have yet.

56
00:04:55,520 --> 00:04:57,460
Speaker 2: are possible to be fixed

57
00:04:57,840 --> 00:04:59,700
Speaker 2: if we invest the time. And

58
00:05:00,015 --> 00:05:03,715
Speaker 2: We invest the time if there's interest and demand by you, the audience.

59
00:05:04,495 --> 00:05:13,330
Speaker 2: So if I see people testing this and listening to the stream and liking it and getting feedback, Those are signals to me. It's worth us investing their time. If I put it out there and it doesn't really go anywhere,

60
00:05:14,590 --> 00:05:32,800
Speaker 2: it may just end up being a dead project or an MVP or we get it a little bit further and just kinda keep it there or we wrap it up. I'm not sure. We're just really careful how we spend our time. So I really gauge it based on kind of the traction it seems to get with the audience. So I'm putting it out there. I'm putting it out there. I'd like to see if you like this,

61
00:05:33,180 --> 00:05:54,775
Speaker 2: if you use it, and I'd like you to have a chance to try it before the next office hours comes out. But we've been having a lot of a lot of,

62
00:05:56,055 --> 00:06:17,790
Speaker 2: kind of new new ideas. But

63
00:06:18,170 --> 00:06:26,350
Speaker 2: man, do I like it? When we get it right. I'm, like, I'm kicking myself when we get it wrong, because I would have liked to have the episode out right around when we hit our bounty.

66
00:06:38,260 --> 00:06:43,000
Speaker 2: And if you do boost into this pocket office, I'll put those sets towards our next bounty.

67
00:06:43,460 --> 00:06:53,685
Speaker 2: But I am really stoked that we hit another one. Really, really looking forward to what we're working on and doing a technical deep dive into how this works and kind of some of the improvements and hopeful

68
00:06:54,409 --> 00:07:07,634
Speaker 2: I'm hopeful some of the updates we'll see to podcasting Tono to make this even better. I will put links to the Jupiter station on Podver fountain and pod friend, or you can just search in a podcasting two dot o app for Jupyter station. Here's how you know if it's working.

69
00:07:09,199 --> 00:07:12,340
Speaker 2: If you only see the introduction, one entry in the feed,

Speaker 2: Links in the notes or search for Jupyter station in your podcast in two point zero app. Thank you for boosting, and we'll be back soon with a banger.
